Wow, I would be thrilled if you wanted to link the video and send it
to whoever you think might like it. I'm very proud of my boy. :)
As far as training it. Quinn had a reliable retrieve going in, with
just about anything. I did follow your plan pretty much to the letter. I
found I needed to go back to the irrigation tubes when we brought it to
new areas, like the front and back yard, but it was only once or twice
then he got the idea. It also helps to sort of warm him up with a take it
and hold a few times before I throw it to help him remember which game we
are playing.
Quinn has a very soft mouth which I think helped us with this. I
really think that the plan you gave us worked beautifully. I don't think I
could improve on it. It is just important to remember to proceed at
your dogs individual pace.
Thanks so much for your response,

expo learning lab
Hi, Katie:
I remember you and Quinn--the adorable
chow hound that he was.
Wow! I love the video. How
absolutely cool. I'd love to link to it from my
site. May I?
I'd also like to send the link to
Karen Pryor and some of the other ClickerExpo instructors. May I do that
too?
I'd love to know more about how you
shaped the behavior. Did you use the pre-requisites matrix? If
so, was it useful? Same goes for the stair-step shaping plan.
I'd especially like to know what special personal twists you put into the
process. Such personal elements are what transform training
from a mechanical process to a joyful shared journey.
Adios,
Quinn my rough Collie and I attended your learning lab at the
Tuscon expo. He is now retrieving a hot dog reliably. This is such a
food dog every time he does it I'm blown away. It was really fun and
makes a great demo for positive training.
Here is the video if you are interested.
Thanks again,
Katie and Quinn |
